Penetration test

Let us attack your system before someone else does

With an authorised, controlled attack simulation, we show you which vulnerabilities can actually be exploited and how you can fix them.

What is a pentest?

During a penetration test, our ethical hackers try to get into your system with your permission and within pre-agreed limits, using the same methods a real attacker would.

  • Pre-agreed scope
  • Automated and manual testing
  • Report with remediation recommendations
Why is it worth it?

What does a penetration test give you?

Lower risk

We uncover vulnerabilities before an attacker can exploit them, so you can reduce risk in a targeted way.

Compliance

Many laws and standards require regular security testing. The report also helps you demonstrate compliance.

Informed decisions

With results ranked by severity, you can plan development work and your security strategy.

When should you choose a penetration test?

  • If your system has never been assessed from a security perspective.
  • If you want to see, through a live simulated attack, what can actually be exploited.
  • If you’re about to launch a bug bounty program and want to find the most critical bugs first.
Testing areas

What can we test?

The goal is to find out whether an attacker could access your data or run code on your system. The areas can be combined into a comprehensive testing strategy.

Network

Routers, switches, firewalls and the rest of your network infrastructure: misconfigurations and exposed attack surfaces.

Web application

Typical web vulnerabilities, such as SQL injection, XSS or authentication bypass.

Mobile application

Insecure data storage, authentication bypass and code injection.

Wireless network

Weak encryption, rogue access points and unauthorised access.

Social engineering

We use psychological manipulation to test your policies and processes: will employees give away sensitive information?

Complemented by bug bounty

A penetration test is a snapshot in time. For continuous protection, you can add a bug bounty program.

Process

How the test works

We agree every step with you in advance and only work within the approved scope.

  1. PlanningWe agree on the goals and the scope: IP addresses, domains, operating systems and the testing methodology.
  2. Automated discoveryWe map open ports, running services and their versions.
  3. Manual testingOur experts verify and exploit the vulnerabilities found, and check whether privileges can be escalated.
  4. ReportWe summarise the vulnerabilities found, the methods used and our remediation recommendations.
Test types

Black-box, grey-box or white-box?

Depending on how much information you share in advance, you can choose from three approaches.

From the outside

Black-box

The tester gets no prior information and approaches the system from the outside, like a real attacker.

As a user

Grey-box

The tester works with partial knowledge and a user account, examining what a logged-in user or a compromised account can do.

With full visibility

White-box

The tester has access to the documentation and, where needed, the source code, so the system can be examined as deeply as possible.

Comparison

GoalSimulating a real external attackSimulating an internal userSimulating a privileged user
AccessNo prior informationPartial information and a registered accountFull access
AdvantageShows the attacker's perspectiveMore efficient than black-boxThe most thorough, in-depth test
DrawbackTime-consuming, some vulnerabilities may stay hiddenDoesn't model an external attackMore data (e.g. source code) has to be shared

Not sure which one fits you? We’ll help you choose the approach that matches your goals.
